About Beith Transport Museum
Beith Transport Museum, Ayrshire’s only transport museum is operated by the Transport Preservation Trust a registered charity. The 53,000sq foot museum first opened its doors to the public back in spring 2007. The past year has been a busy one for the museum and the members, the list of vehicles has grown steadily as has our membership. We are always looking for new members, if you are interested in getting involved please get in touch! We can use people with a specific skill, a reasonable DIY skill and those with nothing but enthusiasm!
Our list of exhibits is as diverse as our members! And includes Buses, Tow Trucks, Fire Engines (Green and Red!) Cars and bikes! We also have a Boat, Ex Blackpool Tram, Glasgow underground subway car and an ever growing collection of military vehicles including a small tank and an armoured personnel carrier. An exciting new exhibit delivery to us in January 2008 was a prototype Hydrogen powered bus. The vehicle one of only three in the UK was donated to us by Transport for London.
We have had many school parties visit us during 2007, and we would like to welcome many more in 2008. It may even be possible to arrange to collect and return local school parties; we have a seatbelt fitted coach for this purpose.
During the year we organise two free open weekends, the first weekend is in March and our second is in August. During the open weekends, many of the museums vintage and preserved vehicles operate free local services to and from the museum site. Further details of the open weekends can be found under the news section of the web site.
