Service History

Prior to full-scale production of its Ailsa model, Volvo built 10 examples for evaluation purposes. Three of these were bought by Greater Glasgow PTE in 1974 and the first, AV1 was exhibited at that years commercial Motor Show at Earls Court, London. This bus entered service in the City of Glasgow in March 1975 in GGPTE White, Yellow and Green colours, and survived until withdrawal in 1990 by Strathclyde’s Buses, who then sold the vehicle for preservation. She spent most, if not all of her life at Larkfeild Depot. The vehicle is truely unique, with only 3 ever having that body style of the peak dome and panoramic windows. This bus is now under restoration and sports her original eye-catching GGPTE livery.
